Yes, changes in dconf are temporary. But maybe just maybe there are some other config files that I can edit and setup my own defaults for Dark profile? Something like gtk.css for customizing wingpanel manually.

in dconf Editor go to org > gnome > desktop > applications > terminal (which corresponds to org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.terminal schema as in the answer ) change value of exec to executable of your app st (simple suckless terminal) xterm(xterm) etc

Rocco, In my Freya slack icon appears in wingpanel in either form of a Exec=(with or without env etc) and it looks relativelly big. Maybe you know how to get rid of it or at least change its size?
