Elementary not booting (SOLVED)
loading a different kernel version ( if you haven't run a sudo autoremove after upgrade, these kernel files must be present)
Go for 'advanced options' in grub and select a previous kernel version in the boot … The OS should successfully boot now.
If it still stays in black, it should be a graphic driver problem …

Can't start/boot Elementry OS loki after fresh install
Seems more like a boot loader issue. … Boot the Supergrub from USB. Supergrup auto-detects all the OS installed on your disks. Select the corresponding volume where elementary OS is installed. …
