First Don't touch the kernel, please, if you need space there's other places you can chop and vandalize. There's a reason you always have two version of the kernel in the system. If you have Freya, you'd have to have the 64-bit version to install Brave since there is no 32-bit version of Brave for Linux. Please not that with the next release of Gala screenshots will be stored in a ~/Pictures/Screenshots/ folder. Gala is elementary OS's window manager and the thing that's responsible for taking screenshots. This was fixed in this PR: https://github.com/elementary/gala/pull/459 Currently we're on Gala version 0.3.2.

I was facing the same problem with SqlWorkbenchJ. I fixed it putting the .png image set in sqlworkbench.desktop under "Icon" into the directory /usr/share/pixmaps. After that, the application started to show the proper icon either in plank dock and applications menu. Hope it helps.
