Maybe Code is overriding Files' association to open folders (inode/directory)? Yes, that is the case. Both have an association with inode/directory in their .desktop file. Better yet, just delete Code (io.elementary.code) and install gedit; much better text editor for general use. Having to always type crtl + backslash is a waste of time and a waste of screen real estate...
