No keyboard backlight after Elementary OS install
What worked for me was to actually press the key (F6) and hold it down. I was surprised to see the lights come up.

Backlight not working on toshiba sattelite C660
I just figured it out... .
sudo nvidia-xconfig
sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Add Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1" to the device section.
sudo reboot

Odin - No backlight after suspend
I was able to fix it after all. Updating to kernel 5.14 broke my trackpad, whilst trying to fix that I came across this:

I think your keys are working but they aren't detected by the kernel driver, because I have the same problem, for fix that I added the parameter in /etc/default/grub

Turn off keyboard backlight automatically
You could script something using xprintidle. It will tell you how long it has been since some interaction has been done. Put it in a while loop with a sleep command so it only checks every 5 seconds ...
