After installing the Nvidia driver into elementary OS 6.1 Jólnir from the AppCentre and on rebooting, my network devices options for both wired and wireless disappeared. This happened for both driver versions 495 and 470. I also tried 460 from the AppCentre however it failed to boot.

Before Nvidia driver:

After Nvidia driver:

I also attempted installing the drivers using:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa && sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 && sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y nvidia-driver-510 libvulkan1 libvulkan1:i386

but that failed to boot. I tried nvidia-driver-495 in the same way, which appeared to download version 510 anyway and also failed to boot.

I'm running Jólnir on a stock NUC 11 enthusiast which has an RTX 2060 mobile GPU, and an i7-1165G7 CPU which also has integrated Iris XE graphics.

Here's the output of sudo lshw -c network and sudo lsusb before installing driver:

For now I've now restored with TimeShift back to before the Nvidia driver install and network disappearing.

I also tried installing the Nvidia 495 driver from AppCentre and then before rebooting entering sudo apt install linux-headers-5.11.0-43-generic but on rebooting there was still no wired or wireless networking. I can't install the generic headers after reboot because, well, no networking and no internet.

The issue seems similar to No network working in elementary os 6 , they had a notebook with disappearing network options on installing Nvidia drivers.

I'm a Linux novice, I really appreciate any help, thank you.

  • I failed to find a solution. Have now installed Pop_os and so far the Nvidia driver and networking are playing together from install. Would like to hear if anyone on a NUC 11 enthusiast manages to get this working. Feb 9 at 20:22
