I recently installed Elementary OS in place of Solus on my 2012 Macbook Pro and audio is only playing from what I assume is the the central a speaker and two tweeters en each side. It sounds very tinny. The optical audio light also turns on when sound is played. This problem is usually alleviated by going into Gnome settings and switching the audio setting from "stereo speakers" to "4.0", which also made the optical audio turn off. I attempted to just install the Ubuntu control center, but that was unsuccessful. Thank you!

  • Let me try to understand. You need 4.0 audio plus optical audio at the same time, correct? That should be an option inside System Settings > Audio. No need to use gnome-settings or anything else. Maybe you can try pavucontrol if the setting you want was not available.
