When booting the computer, after succesfully showing the elementary splash, when presented with the lockscreen greeter, the screen only shows the background grey and app indicator icons in the top right and cycles between slightly different spacing in the app indicator icons, before eventually after a while presenting the full lockscreen greeter where I can then login as per usual.

Perhaps something to do with resolution? Think it was driven by the last Greeter 6.0.1 update to https://github.com/elementary/greeter

Any help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the response @matigo

Thanks for the response, just checked the logs and I do think it is lightdm.

SOLUTION (Partial): Upon further review found out I need to somehow reinstall my display manager. (was found at this link: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=213578,will gladly remove it external links aren't allowed).

Simply reinstalling elementary-desktop doesn't work,

Followed the following solution to reinstall light-dm, only reinstall's default Ubuntu lightdm, sure there's the Elementary Pantheon theme but not convinced its not the problem and I'm happy with the Ubuntu login. Failed to start Light Display Manager?

  • There is a lot going on in the background when the greeter comes up in order to prepare the desktop for a faster load after a successful login. That said, it shouldn't be more than a couple of seconds before you are presented with the login screen. Do you see any error messages in /var/log/syslog that might point to delayed services, networking issues, or something else that might prevent the greeter from loading quickly?
