While trying to install Zoom I was instructed to run apt-get -f install. When I did so, I saw multiple lines flash passed saying "removing pantheon". On rebooting I could no longer access Elementary - I just got a blank screen.

After much searching I discovered I had to re-install the Elementary desktop, using the following command:

    sudo apt-get install --reinstall elementary-desktop

I did this and am now able to log in to my desktop. However, all of my applications seem to have disappeared, including essential things such as Terminal, Files and Firefox.

I have searched online but am stumped. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
