I am using the current version of elementary os (5.1.3) and vlc (3.0.8) to play videos. However the screensaver kicks in even when vlc is set to disable it. I tried different video output settings in vlc's video tab (automatic, opengl, wayland (didn't work; just flickering screen), and both xcb possibilities).

The current setting (xvideo (xcb)) works under ubuntu (I installed the ubuntu desktop and started a wayland session).

So, why is vlc not working correctly? Elementarys own videoplayer does not have this problems but I don't like it due to lack of functionality.
